August 22nd, Day #4 - John 1:35-51
Jesus turned and saw them following and said to them, "What are you seeking?"– John 1:38a
Jesus seeks you out today and asks, “What really matters to you at the end of the day? What do you chase down to make sure you have in this life? What are you hoping it will do for you?”
What do you notice going on inside of your soul when you consider these questions?
What could it look like to seek after Jesus in these areas?
Read John 1:35-51
Most of us have played some variation of “Hide and Seek.” It’s a simple game, but Jesus’ question – “What are you seeking?” – is only simple in its verbiage. Its implications are profound.
Most of us who pick up this devotional would say we’re seeking Jesus. And I’m sure we are. It’s just that we’re seeking a bunch of other things, too. Too often these other things crowd Jesus out, or at least put Him on the sidelines instead of in the middle of our game of life.
But notice what Jesus does here. The disciples are beginning to entertain the hope that He’s the Messiah. But they’re not sure. How would one notice the Hope of the Ages for your people, particularly if they’re right in front of you and they come from Nazareth?
What I love is that Jesus doesn’t rebuke their skepticism. He invites them to “come and see.” He does the same with us, no matter where we are on our journey. He seeks us as we continue to seek Him.
Take some time today. Examine what you’re really seeking
… and don’t forget to “come and see” Jesus while you’re at it.
Let’s look to what God wants to say directly to you today through today's passage (see the link above).
Scripture: As you read, take time to notice the phrases that pop out at you. What is it about them that catches your eye? What might the Lord be trying to tell you?
Observation: Which words are repeated in these verses? Why would that be?
Application: When did God begin moving toward you in your life? How did you experience God’s love during that time?
Prayer: Praise God for the ways He has initiated with you in your life! Let your trust and gratitude grow during this special time of prayer.
Today, we'll take a different approach and dive deeper in an artistic way.
